Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) is native to the prairies of North America. It is also known as Prairie Gentian, Texas bluebell, Poor man’s rose, Eustoma or simply “Lisies”. Lisianthus is loved for its striking, rose-like beauty and wide range of colors, which include White, Pink, Purple (called Blue by breeders), Lavender, Pastel Yellow, Peach, Green and Bicolors (Picotee). There are many varieties with different flower shapes and sizes. Blooms can have single or double rows of petals. Most varieties commercially available today have double blooms. Lisianthus can have from 2 to 7 blooms per stem depending on the grade. Blooms will be at different stages of development. They will add texture, color and that whimsical garden look to arrangements and bouquets. Individual blooms are ideal for elegant boutonnieres and corsages.
